The Sui Han San You restaurant, named after the "Three Friends of Winter" in Chinese culture - pine, bamboo, and plum blossom, was set up by three friends. The design team, led by Hui Ye, sought to echo the restaurant's artistic and elegant name by adopting Tang-style wooden structures, beams, and columns to construct the spatial framework. Austere materials were used to create a magnificent elegance within the two-storey space.

The design of Sui Han San You is characterized by the perfect integration of strength and beauty, as well as a balance between rigor and magnificence - features that are emblematic of architectures in the Tang dynasty. Walnut columns were orderly arranged at the sides and linked to the ceiling. A minimalist style was adopted to interpret the mutual complementation between the parts and the whole. Modern techniques and expressions were used to reshape the beauty of interior structures.

The design realization of the restaurant involved several innovative techniques. At the entrance, a walnut column rises out from the waterscape, supporting the ceiling and constituting a geometric shape that functions as a reception desk in the foyer. In the reception area at the lobby, a wooden structure was added to the high ceiling to lower the height of this area, eliminate the sense of distance from guests, and achieve the harmony and contrast of spatial proportions.

One of the key challenges faced by the design team was the client's request to add an elevator to the two-storey space for the convenience of those with mobility problems. To create space for the elevator pit, the designers lifted the ground level on the elevator area. A slope was created to deal with the elevation difference between this area and other areas on the first floor, functioning as a transitional space. Coupled with waterscape, the slope offers a sense of formality and mystery.
